Maintenance & Gardening Assistant (Kickstart Placement)

This will provide a hands-on opportunity to assist the team of maintenance operatives providing a service of maintenance and gardening to a large and busy Museum and tourist attraction.

The Tank Museum holds the world’s finest and most historically significant collection of tanks, and is a major Dorset attraction with over 200,000 visits in 2019. Ten powerful exhibitions tell the story of the tank and the soldiers that fought in them – from the First World War to the present day.

The Maintenance Team are key to the organisation in keeping the site in top condition and providing our visitors with a first-class experience. As a Maintenance and Gardening Assistant the placement will work under the supervision of the maintenance team in keeping our site tidy and clean, general site maintenance and set up. They will also have the opportunity of helping out with Tank Museum maintenance projects.

The post holder will have the opportunity to use their practical skills in assisting with tasks such as gardening, painting, carpentry, plumbing, general building, tidying up, cleaning and car parking.

During our summer season The Museum at times is a very busy place and a flexible approach is necessary for this placement as they may be asked to help out in other areas of the Museum’s operation.

At the end of the six-month period the placement will have gained valuable experience in health & safety, gardening, plastering, carpentry, painting and general building skills. Working in a team and a good insight into how a busy operation team work.
